When we use our computer for the first time, with Windows as the operating system, it goes like silk, fast and fast. It starts promptly, it opens the programs quickly, the Internet surfing is fluid.
After a short period of time, we observe that it starts to go slow, slower and slower. It takes a while to start when trying to open an application, in some cases, it becomes eternal, the games become unbearable due to their parsimony.
Like most mobile devices slow down, in this case, our PC and take the opportunity to say “Do not be afraid to give a restart to your computer / PC if something is not working properly. ” In more than one occasion it can be fixed, many problems more quickly than trying to solve it manually and correct problems.
What elements slow down a Windows computer?
There are several causes that slow down a computer. The programs that are loaded in the beginning are too many, more and more.
Unnecessary services and processes are executed, some do it without our permission, they depend on applications that have been installed on the computer without our authorization or without being aware of it.
In addition, the file or files that contain the data of the registry are getting fatter little by little. Unnecessary references are stored, some of the uninstalled applications or deleted documents. Also, the hard disk is fragmented, forcing access to files to jump.
How to increase the performance?
What can we do to recover speed? There is no magic formula that returns the system to its origins. There are specific optimization methods that will help to recover fluency. These are some:
- Disable Startup Programs :
When an operating system is started, it is normal for some programs to run, slowing down the process of starting the session and to prevent those applications from starting at startup, saving the resources of the Processor, the Memory, and improving the startup process of the session.
On Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 systems there is an option in the boot manager tool in the task manager. We access in the Task Manager – in the Home tab, we deactivate the programs that we do not need to run and it is normal for Windows to slow down the execution process of those programs.
2.Clean the Registry:
There are many tools that have as their mission to eliminate invalid or obsolete references from the Windows Registry. There is none that works well, they do not do a thorough cleaning.
If we choose a free one, with an acceptable functioning, we opt for CCleaner, (It also deletes everything that is left over in your computer: temporary files, documents in the cache, cookies …).
It is convenient that you execute it, depending on the use you give to your computer, at least once a week.
If we want all the clusters of an application or of any file to be contiguous and, consequently, allow faster access and reading, we must unite the fragments that are scattered in a disorderly manner throughout the hard disk.
The operating system itself has a defragmentation utility ( Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter ).
It is advisable to use it, also depending on the use of the computer, at least once a month. In the latest versions of Windows, the defragmentation capability has been implemented in the background.
4.Manage your paging file:
The Windows virtual memory is used to store data temporarily programs and processes that are in use and require additional space in main memory.
To manage it, a paging file is created on the hard disk, with which the access ends up being somewhat slower (unless we have a solid state disk SSD). With the current configurations, in which the most usual thing is to have more than 4 Gbytes of memory, we can make all these data run directly in it and thus gain some performance.
To change this parameter we go to the Registry and look for the HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management entry.
There, we double-click on DisablePagingExecutiveand change the value information from 0 to 1. After restarting the system, the changes will be applied and we will have optimized the paging file.
5.Scan for Malware and Adware:
It could be that your computer is infected by malicious software running in the background slowing down your computer or it may not be Malware and being a software that interferes with web browsing, in order to track or add additional ads, for example.
I scanned your computer with an antivirus program, to be more secure. And with a Malwarebytes that captures a lot of potentially unwanted programs or software, what most antivirus programs tend to ignore.
Windows uses many animations and you can slow down your computer. To deactivate the animations press Windows + X and select system and click on advanced system settings.
The window that appears System Properties accessed ” Performance Settings ” to disable all animations or individual animations that you do not want to see. For example “to disable minimize and maximize animations”.
7.Remove the sources you will not use:
Windows includes many different fonts as standard, but the more we have, the longer it will take the system to load them all.
For this reason, eliminating those that we do not use is always good advice, especially those of alphabets different from ours that will rarely be useful to us.
8.Free Disk Space:
If the disk is almost completely full, it will greatly influence the slowness of your computer. It is not necessary to download third-party applications. Running the disk cleanup tool that includes Windows can help a bit in accelerating our computer.
9.Lighten The Browser:
There are probabilities that our web browser uses many resources. Therefore, it is good to use the least number of extensions or add-ons in our browser. Enter the extensions or add-ons and deactivate the ones that you do not use.
10.Close the Program System Tray:
It is very common for some programs to run at the start of our computer and end up in the system’s desktop tray or notification area.
These run in the background and remain hidden in the background behind the up arrow icon. Access from the up arrow and press any program that does not need to run in the background to free resources.
